Capturing the essence of an aurora borealis – This is the challenge Skandinavisk has set for itself.
Nordlys, which means ‘northern lights’ in Norwegian, is the latest addition to brand’s assortment. The scent of this fantastic natural phenomenon is undefinable, but its dancing green and blue lights are less elusive. Such dramatic and magical display in the sky is what inspired the new concept.
We can just imagine how beautiful the flickering candle flame of Nordlys will show through the painted votive, which is designed to ressemble and aurora’s symphony of colour!
Nordlys will be launched at Maison & Objet Paris from 2nd September 2016.

With our new ‘Nordlys’ candle, the ambition is to create a fragrance truly indefinable but with intense colour and freshness – just like the Aurora. The theme also encouraged us to reinterpret our existing design approach by creating overlapping colour, and exploding our familiar brand pattern into stars in the sky. We then used a coloured wax for the first time, so the effect should be something altogether new when lit by a flickering candle flame – even if it in no way can ever truly replicate the actual Aurora.
The 190gr/6.7oz. Nordlys candle is made from a blend of perfume and vegetable wax with a 100% cotton wick and engraved beechwood lid. Hand-poured into a painted glass votive, it will burn for up to 50 hours. When the wax is finished, the votive and lid are designed to be re-used for tealights or storage.”
