The Danish icon ‘Blue Fluted Mega’ turns ten this year, and a number of new hand-painted items will be added to the popular series to celebrate the anniversary, such as cake stands, cups, tureens and dishes.
While studying at The Danish Design School, Karen Kjældgård-Larsen presented to her tutors the idea of enlarging segments of Royal Copenhagen’s iconic Blue Fluted pattern, which appeared on the porcelain factory’s first service in 1775. She then made a proposal directly to the company and two years later (2000) her reinterpretation of the classic Blue Fluted design was launched and became a global success as well as a part of Denmark’s cultural heritage.
