Located about an 1.5h north of Malmö, in the middle of a beech forest, you’ll find Wanås Estate; a historic estate with an organic farm and a 15th century castle. Pronounced “Vanoos”, it is a true cultural and culinary destination in Skåne, designed to be a retreat for gastronome art lovers with an outdoorsy streak.
The interior offers a great blend of old and new: Bespoke contemporary work by artists from around the world, vintage furniture, original features like expoesed brick walls and gnarled beams, locally sourced materials, etc. The décor is eclectic, personal and unique – Very homey. It is elegant, with that Nordic simplicty that we all love.
The sustainable hotel has eleven individually decorated double rooms, with custom designed furniture. I’m loving the bathroom’s vintage-pink tiles and limestone floors – Retro yet contemporary.
The place also houses the Wanås Restaurant, whic offers unpretentious, Nordic farm-to-table restaurant with seasonal products.Breakfast is included with a stay, and guests enjoy access to the one of the world’s top sculpture parks.
No wonder this place just made it to the Condé Nast Traveler’s 2018 Hot List!
Can I go, pretty please?
What a fantastic retreat!
Have you been to this place? Do you have any other recommendations for the south of Sweden?
