This post is part of the series Best of 2014 – I thought it would be fun to look back at what happened in the last year, and to come up with a few articles that summarize it well.
Here are five of my favourite collections of 2014, in no particular order.
I am completely in love with Menu‘s 2014 collection. The Danish company made use of some interesting materials: Cork, felt, concrete, etc. The entire collection is tactile as well as visually captivating. Menu has long focused on combining minimalism and usability, and they have again succeeded in doing so with their 2014 collection. See more here.
Muuto presented some of the best of Scandinavian design in a beautifully soft and cohesive summer collection 2014. The Danish design brand took inspiration from its own name, which is based on the Finnish word “muutos”, meaning new perspective. Bringing together creative and innovative designers, Muutos approaches classic Nordic design from a new, personal angle. See more here.
Marimekko’s Autumn/Winter 2014 Kids collection offered essential pieces for autumnal living. Inspired by the wonders of nature and fun days spent in the forest, the collection features outfits for newborns, infants, toddles and kids in many beloved Marimekko patterns, perfect for getting back to the daily rhythm after the summer. Danish homeware brand OYOY revealed its Autumn/Winter 2014 collection, which included lovely home accessories for children. The styling of their pictures is simply fabulous! I wish my home would look like this… Very Scandinavian, fresh, fun and yet sophisticated. See more here.
5. Norm Architects for Design Within Reach
Finn Collection designed by Danish Norm Architects for Design Within Reach consists of a set of outdoor furniture. Their most important task – to endure both time and weather – has been taken into careful consideration during the design process. Functional, durable, and elegant, these are a must on any balcony or terrace! See more here.
