Lempi is the universal drinking glass, designed by the celebrated Swedish designer Matti Klenell for Iittala. Meaning ‘favourite’ in Finnish, Lempi has been created for any occasion, informal or spectacular. Inspired by modern living spaces, this softly rounded, stackable stemware offers generous servings without taking up too much space in a small kitchen. It is the ultimate space-saver: Strong enough for every day use and elegant enough for hospitality, Lempi feels natural on your breakfast table at home, on the desk at the office or even as an alternative to your usual wine glasses on a special occasion.
“This is the first time I design a drinking glass. Great fun since I am something of a glass nerd that regularly scan local flea markets for interesting design. I am familiar with the material though and has worked with it a lot in a more artistic, craft oriented way but this was quite different and I took on the assignment with great humility”, says Matti Klenell. “Someone said that it is just as tricky to design a good drinking glass as it is to design a chair. After one year of drafting, sketching and testing I fully agree…”
