Days are getting shorter, darker and colder… but it is a great time of the year to create an inviting and comfy home to escape the gloomy weather; a cocoon-like place to put on your slippers, bake some cookies, make a warm cup of tea, and enjoy the autumnal vibe. They key lies in adding layers and playing with rich and deep hues, soft textures, ambient lighting, and a few seasonal accents.
Here are my top things to do/have to create a great autumn look and feel into your home.

1. An Organic Sheepskin
A soft, long-haired sheepskin is a great way to add a touch of coziness in a very Scandi way. Drape it over a couch, a chair, or use it as a rug. One of my favorite places to source beautiful, quality sheepskin products is Natures Collection.

2. A Scented Candle
Set the mood and make your home smell wonderfully comforting with a scented candle. Plus: With a pretty packaging, your candle becomes a nice decorative accent, and you can upcycle the jar into a pen holder, mini vase, etc. I absolutely love scented candles by Mad & Len, Byredo, and Skandinavisk.

3. A Wire Basket
Use a wire basket filled with firewood to adorn your front porch or to store by the wood stove for a rustic chic look. You can also use it by a cozy lounge chair to store your blankets, 1-2 cushions, magazines… anything that says “hygge“. Plus, it’s a versatile and functional addition to any decor.

4. A Wool Throw
Keeping warm blankets within reach during the colder weather months is a no brainer, but a stylish throw is also an easy way to add layers of textures to your decor and to soften the look.
I especially like cashmere throws by Danish company Fritz Hansen – Super soft, exquisite materials, and timeless colors.

5. Fall Foliage & Flowers
It’s time for fall flowers and foliage! Bring the outside in by creating an autumnal centerpiece with spiky sea holly, thistle, heather, dahlia, sedum, oak or cotton branches, hawthorn twigs, dried hydrangeas, and even artichokes.

6. Plush, Comfy Cushions
Cushions can quickly change the look of a room. Opt for comfy materials like wool, velvet, cotton or tweed. Quilted, knitted, bouclé or shearling designs add extra texture.

7. Dimmable lighting
Lighting is oh-so-important when creating a cozy home. It can transform a room, making it feel more intimate, welcoming, and wonderfully atmospheric. I recommend a dimmable accent lamp like the JWDA from Menu, with a white opal glass shade, for a soft ambient glow.

Great Coffee Table Books
Now that you’ve created a warm and inviting cocoon, what better than enjoying a new book while cuddling up on the sofa with a cup of latte? Plus: It’s a nice way to dress up your coffee table.
