Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

About: The historic past of the building set the tone as soon as you walk in. The heritage listed site comprises an existing bunker and bomb shelter dating back to World War II, adding to the unique feel of the place. The restaurant, located on Niels Hemmingsen street, has lots of character and a sophisticated vibe. Purity and “godliness” (notice the church-inspired seats) are the main themes of the beautiful interior, created by Anders Busk Faarborg from All That Matters Design. It is all about clean lines, a light palette, raw materials. Impressive custom-made brass chandeliers perfect the look.

What the editor says: The chef, Adam Aamann, promised familiar fare with a surprising twist. Good food in a space with beautiful aesthetic influenced by Nordic simplicity? I’m in!

The Vipp Loft

.

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

About: Vipp’s hotel concept is slightly untraditional: Instead of having a building with several suites, Vipp offers individual “rooms” at different locations. The Loft is one of them. Designed by renowned architect David Thulstrup, the spacious 400-square-meter apartment is quite a sight to see.

“The Vipp Loft is a true design experience just 10 minutes from the heart of Copenhagen. The loft is situated at the heart of the Vipp brand, on the top floor of the Vipp office. You can play around in the kitchen, lounge on the couch, soak in the tub or catch up on some reading in the library. Just next door are bakeries, coffee-shops and the Copenhagen harbour.”

The Vipp Loft sleeps max 4 people in 2 queen size beds. There is no roomservice or restaurant at the Vipp Loft, but the kitchen is fully equipped. The refrigerator has access to bottled water and champagne, and there is a Nespresso coffee machine and tea.

Hotel Sanders

.

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

About: Located in an Art Nouveau building dating back to 1869, near the picturesque Nyhavn Canal and the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen, you’ll find luxury boutique Hotel Sanders.  The interior, by London-based design studio Lind + Almond (formerly Soho House Group), is inspired by travels and theatre. The style fuses classic mid-modern Danish features with English eccentricities and Asian influences. Think wood-burning fireplace, filled freestanding bookcases, leather safari chairs, rattan and woven cane furniture, Murano glass chandeliers, jute wallpaper, aged timber and golden undertones. Exclusive artwork by emerging British artists can be found throughout the hotel.

Small and intimate, the hotel is said to be a warm, bespoke experience for guests. Facilities include the Sanders Kitchen, the TATA cocktail bar, the Living Room, an inner courtyard, as well as a rooftop conservatory.

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

About: An old industrial coal-lifting crane on the harbour in Nordhavn, Copenhagen, was transformed into a sleek, contemporary and multi-functional space.

Each area of The Krane’s four structure is available for hire: A reception on the ground floor; a meeting room with 360-degree views on the first floor; a spa clad with two bath tubs on the second floor; and a 50-square-meter retreat on the top floor.

Designed to offer an immersive, multi-sensory experience, the space is minimal and entirely black, an homage to the building’s past life in the coal industry. “Black plays a pivotal role in muting and minimising visual distractions so people feel almost enveloped in the interior,” said lead architect Mads Møller of Arcgency. “There are hundreds of different shades of black. Depending on the time of day, you can see so many subtle nuances.”

There are plenty of large windows to make the most of the impressive vista, and to enjoy as much natural light as possible.

The interior space is clad entirely in stained Dinesen Douglas fir, and it is furnished with built-in furniture, as well as custom-made pieces in leather, wood, stone and steel. Guests can use the complimentary bicycles or a BMW i3 electric car.

Barr Restaurant

Location: Copenhagen, Denmark

About: Barr is an endeavour by acclaimed chefs Thorsten Schmidt and René Redzepi in the former home of Noma on Copenhagen’s waterfront.

Designed by architecture studio Snøhetta, the restaurant is casual yet very sophisticated. Its warm oak floor contrasts with the rough texture of the original stone walls. A massive, carved wooden counter stretching from one room to the other anchors the space. The ceiling is alternately composed of the original ceiling beams and new, sculpted wooden planks, which are embedded with brass details that reflect micro spots of light. Raw materials – wood, leather and wool – evoke the restaurant’s Northern influence.

The restaurant’s furniture was created by Malte Gormsen using traditional Danish craftsmanship and carpentry.

Barr focused not only on the Nordics, but also on the broader food and drink traditions found in the region along the North Sea; an area that spans Scandinavia, Germany, Benelux and British Isles. The restaurant’s name (Barr: meaning “barley” in old Norse), reflects Schmidt’s fascination with the region’s food and drink history and culture. Classic dishes such as frikadeller (Danish meatballs), schnitzel and hot-smoked salmon will be offered alongside a large selection of craft beers and aquavits.
