Kin Votives is a set of 5 brass tea light holders designed by Swedish architect firm Claesson Koivisto Rune for producer of fine metal objects Skultuna.

These elegant tea light holders reflect and enhance the warmth of candlelight. Their polished brass surfaces will tarnish and develop a beautiful patina with use and time. Made in Sweden. Each set of 5 Votives arrives in an elegant gift box.

The series of pictures below shows the exhaustive creation process of the Kin Urushi collection, following the traditional methods of Japanese craftsmen.This limited edition has been developed to raise funds for those effected by the tohoku region pacific coast earthquake; 100% of the proceeds from this product with be donated to the cause.

Summary of the process: A craftsman first prepares the surface. Temporary bamboo handles are glued on to aid with lacquer process – A minimum of one week of drying is required. A primary lacquer is applied and finished with suruga-charcoal, and after a second coat, the surface is checked for particles.The final surface coat takes 3-4 days to dry. Finally, each piece is labeled with a hand-written serial number in gold dust to identify each of the 75 limited edition pieces.
